About us

Welcome to the world of Pelmo Publishers, a distinguished publishing house rooted in Pretoria, South Africa. Formerly recognized as Pelmo Books, our company was founded in 2012 by the visionary Nkemiseng Molefe, who, at the young age of 25, embarked on a remarkable journey that has evolved into what we proudly present today – Pelmo Publishers.

Nkemiseng Molefe's inspiration arose from a noble cause – to curate and organize the vast collection of manuscripts belonging to her renowned father, Dr. Lawrence Molefe, a celebrated author. This aspiration transformed into a burgeoning business, fueled by Nkemiseng's insatiable curiosity and unyielding determination to transform her father's literary passion into a tangible and flourishing venture. Through diligent self-guided learning, relentless research, and strategic consultations, Nkemiseng embarked on a transformative path, gradually paving the way for the inception of Pelmo Publishers.

Today, Pelmo Publishers stands tall, celebrating the publication of over 65 esteemed titles and representing 29 esteemed authors. Additionally, we maintain 15 distribution contracts with self-published authors and proudly hold an international rights-contract. A true testament to our commitment is reflected in our unwavering dedication to the linguistic diversity of South Africa. With 11 official languages, 9 of which are indigenous treasures, including isiZulu, siSwati, isiNdebele, isiXhosa, Setswana, Sesotho, Sepedi, Tshivenda, and Tsonga, Pelmo Publishers serves as a beacon in preserving and revitalizing these languages. Our mission transcends the written word – it is about safeguarding our heritage, ensuring our indigenous languages thrive across generations, and fostering education in and through these languages.

Through meticulous translation and publication efforts, we are driving the revival of mother-tongue languages, nurturing the art of reading, writing, and speaking in the diverse tapestry of our nation. By championing this mission, we proudly contribute to the advancement of literacy in South African indigenous languages, enriching the minds and souls of our fellow citizens. Yet, our influence extends further. Our nation's vibrant multicultural landscape has bestowed upon us a wealth of narratives, perspectives, and creative potential. In acknowledging this, Pelmo Publishers stands as a vessel for the multicolored voices that weave our national identity. Our platform provides authors from myriad backgrounds with a unique canvas to express themselves, celebrate their cultures, and contribute to the rich tapestry of our collective story.

From 2015 onward, our dedication has resonated strongly in the education sector. We collaborate closely with public and school libraries, facilitating access to enriching literature through partnerships with the state Department of Education. This focus has now blossomed into an expansion into the trade sector, where we publish captivating titles to captivate the broader public. In tandem with publishers nationwide, we share the common goal of fostering a culture of reading and intellectual engagement.

In essence, Pelmo Publishers is more than a publishing house; it's a bridge connecting authors, readers, cultures, and languages. Our legacy stands as a testament to the passion, determination, and unwavering commitment of Nkemiseng Molefe and our entire team. Together, we shall continue to illuminate minds, celebrate diversity, and enrich the literary landscape of South Africa and beyond. Welcome to Pelmo Publishers – where words come to life, and stories resonate across borders.
